Monday Edit

TOGETHER WITH HANNAH HARRIS & TAFI DANIELS:

Happy Monday!

Here's your morning dose of all things Mont Belvieu. 💙

Last Thursday's Costco vs. Sam's Club poll results: 75% chose Costco. đŸ„‡

Apparently, you prefer your bulk shopping with $1.50 hot dogs. 🌭 Baytown can keep their Sam's Club—we'll start pestering Costco executives with nicely-worded letters until they bless us with their warehouse presence.

With all this weather lately... guess Texas's average annual rainfall:

Building for the Boom | Summer Spotlight 🚹

Anyone who lives, works, or visits the Chambers County area for any length of time will quickly realize that this area is booming. The City of Mont Belvieu itself is slated to nearly triple in size over the next 10 years and leaders in both Chambers County and the City of Mont Belvieu, have a task ahead of them to ensure we’re ahead of the growth. Even with the growth though, the goal is to keep that hometown vibe while planning some pretty ambitious stuff for the future.

Already, multiple intersections have underwent revamping with smarter traffic lights and better alignment, which should make those trips across town way less frustrating. We know the intersection of Eagle Drive and 3180 has had it’s issues— but it’s a work in progress! As traffic increases, so does the frequent need for adjustments and changes of these intersections.

In addition, they're already planning to widen more roads because let's face it—with all the new neighborhoods and businesses popping up, we're gonna need them. State Highway 146 is getting some serious upgrades as part of the Houston-Galveston regional plan. More lanes, better management—basically making sure we're not all stuck in traffic jams ten years from now.

In addition, county commissioners are working on designating better truck routes, especially on our side of the county, where all those big rigs from the port are tearing up roads that weren't meant for them. Definitely needed. They’re also updating their flood rules to potentially get residents cheaper flood insurance—which is important around here, even more so during hurricane season.

The wastewater treatment plant in Mont Belvieu is running almost maxed out, so they're doubling it from 1.5 to 3 million gallons per day within the next couple years. They're also adding a new water well and tower to bump production from 3 to 6 million gallons daily—that's a lot of water, but apparently we're gonna need it.

The Mont Belvieu area is part of this massive 2035 Regional Transportation Plan that's bringing thousands of new lane-miles to the Houston area. For us, that means wider highways and better connections to everywhere else. Maybe all of the gridlock on I-10 at Eagle Drive will be a thing of the past— eventually.

The city's public works team seems to have their act together—they're planning for the population to double again over the next decade. The goal is pretty straightforward: keep traffic moving, keep the lights on and water flowing, and make sure the Mont Belvieu area stays the kind of place where people actually want to live.

We’re growing fast but the city and county both are making efforts to do it smart. They're hoping to keep that small-town feel while building for a much bigger future—and honestly, that's not easy to pull off.
