Infrastructure Improvements | 🛣️
Thoroughfare Plan
This plan was done through the Houston Galveston Area Council and was presented to the Chambers County Commissioners Court, highlighting approximately 50 proposed new connections and extensions to existing roads. Key considerations included addressing congestion along Interstate 10 and identifying alternate routes to improve traffic flow. The plan also emphasizes safety improvements and the need for east-west corridors to enhance mobility across the county.
Drainage Improvements & Maintenance
Discussion and approval for payment of $108,590.00 to TxDOT for materials for the FM 3180 drainage project, with TxDOT covering all other costs and work. Also, accepted Raintree Section 4 and Winfree Oaks Sections 1-4 roadways and drainage into the County’s maintenance program.
The Commissioners Court presented an order authorizing the removal of blockages from private ditches. The order allows the County to remove any obstruction that “results in a substantial decrease in water flow or stops the flow of water through the private ditch in a way that adversely impacts the County’s drainage system,” provided proper notice is given.
Facility Upgrade Proposals
Proposal from Arnold Construction for remodeling the West Annex includes interior upgrades to the District Clerk’s office ($16,940) and Constable’s office ($14,760), totaling $31,700. All work will meet Chambers County standards. A separate proposal for a new Beach City restroom was submitted by Arnold Construction at $114,900.

Orsted Star P2X LLC is seeking a Chapter 312 property tax abatement from Chambers County for Project Wharf, a $1.2 billion green hydrogen and eMethanol production facility planned for TGS Cedar Port Industrial Park. The project is expected to bring around 750 temporary construction jobs and 50 full-time positions with annual salaries ranging from $90,000 to $200,000, generating an estimated $6.9 million annual payroll by 2030. The facility would be located just north of Highway 99 in Chambers County, within Baytown’s ETJ. Construction completion is estimated for 2030.
Partnership with Economic Development Foundation
Chambers County has partnered with the Baytown/West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation to implement a contract supporting local growth, job creation, and business development. Infrastructure Updates
Our community isn’t the only thing growing around here. The newest addition to the high school is a direct result of continued student enrollment growth. With future projections of 3,500+ students at Barbers Hill High School, the school board has made it a priority to ensure facilities can meet the demand. The new academic & athletic addition will provide approximately 6,000 square feet of multi-level space designed by Cre8 Architects, who have played a key role in shaping the vision. The design features include courtyards and outdoor spaces, offering students a "breath of fresh air" experience beyond the traditional classroom. Construction on this project is scheduled for completion this month (May 2025).
The improvements underway in the athletics division include the addition of a new training room, updated varsity and junior varsity locker rooms, and expanded spaces for coaches and trainers.
Upgrades are happening beyond the high school as well. The Early Childhood Center’s pre-K building is receiving a full refresh with new flooring, ceilings, and other updates designed to create a welcoming space for 4 and 5-year-olds. Mont Belvieu’s Middle School South (MSS) is scheduled for a cafeteria renovation, with Middle School North (MSN) next in line.
Additionally, Lee College’s extension campus is in the planning stages, with a targeted opening in fall 2027. This new campus will be located at Gill Parkway and FM 1409, following the architectural style of nearby schools. Two new primary school buildings are also on the long-term calendar, with completion anticipated in fall 2028.

Softball | Regional Semi-finals 🥎
The girls knew the pressure was on heading into Friday’s win-or-go-home matchup against Georgetown Eastview. Baseball | Area Regionals ⚾️
Last week’s series against Crosby started on shaky ground with a 5-10 loss in Game 1. But by Friday’s Game 2, the boys came back strong, winning 10-2 and forcing a decisive Game 3. With everything on the line, they rose to the challenge, shutting out Crosby 4-0 to punch their ticket to Round 3. They’re flying high and moving on with their next game to be determined soon.
Boys Golf | UIL State Golf Tournament 🏌️♂️
The Boys UIL State Golf Tournament was cut short Tuesday due to weather, making Monday’s 18 holes the final score. While not the ideal finish, earning a spot among the top 72 golfers in 5A is a huge achievement. Proud of an outstanding season!
Tennis | Regionals 🎾
The tennis team competed at Texas A&M Consolidated last week for Regionals. Congratulations to the boys' doubles team—senior Jason Sato and sophomore Dallas Alegria—on finishing 2nd and advancing to STATE!
